"Medium Well" please! 07/11/2010
"Yes, I would like my steak medium well please." As I sat in a downtown restaurant in St. Louis ordering a steak, I was reminded it was just a week ago I was in a hut in Haiti, dripping in sweat, eating rice and beans. Something did not feel right. Most of the world does not enjoy what we do in America. Food choices, air condition, and paved roads are just not the norm for most of the world. As I was sitting in the restaurant I was thinking that this is not about guilt, but it is about my response to a world that needs help. Jesus spoke some penetrating words in Matthew 25. He basically said that you show how much you love Him, by how much you love the people around you. When you feed someone, cloth someone or visit someone, you are doing this to God. If you ignore people's needs, you ignore God. Yikes! I have spent most of my life talking a good game about what the right thing is to do. The gap between talking and doing though has been wide. The world is a stage, and I want to play my God given role on that stage. Give me my script, let me learn my lines, and fill my role with a passion. I want the director to lead and one day say, "Well done good and faithful servant." Add Comment Keeping Our Message Simple 05/30/2010
As I approach my first blog, I am struck with the fear that I have to believe every blogger thinks at some point, "Do I have anything worth saying?". I was thinking that this fear really spills over into our everyday lives. "Does my life say anything that people want to hear?" Sooooooo, what do you want your life to say? This question intimidates me. Oh, I think I have some great thoughts and intentions, but it amazes me how many of my good intentions, don't get acted on. So I have been trying lately to keep this very simple and practical regarding what "I want to say to people." You are valuable! You are loved! You have something to offer! There is a plan for your life! God is pursuing you! And how do I do this? Keep it simple. Open the door for someone. Smile at someone! Tell someone something you appreciate about them! Give someone your attention! Offer kindness to someone who does not offer it back! These are are just a few I am working on. |
